Chef, Waiel Majid, was born in the land of one of the oldest civilizations: Babylon, or modern-day Iraq. A resident Californian now, Waiel has left family behind in Lebanon, Morocco, Syria and Iraq. This explains Zatar’s emphasis on Eastern Mediterranean/Middle Eastern and North African dishes.

While some dishes at Zatar are inspired by the authentic, others are entirely their own creation. Eclectic Mediterranean Cuisine knows no borders; yet the style remains consistent with it’s emphasis on freshness, high-quality, organic ingredients, and meticulous, by-hand preparation.
